Description
The Then, the Now, and the Future of Architectural Education: Paradigmatic Transformations in Design Studio Teaching Practices Debates on the current system of architectural education in the UK are calling for change. This is coupled with the argument that no other profession has undergone as dramatic a transformation in the past decade as architecture. Therefore, the need to deepen the discourse about how architectural education might change is clearly on the rise. This talk presents architectural design education as a paradigm whose evolutionary processes, underpinning theories, contents, methods, tools, should be interrogated. It outlines key paradigmatic shifts that include traditional pedagogy and reactions against it, pioneering studio typologies, and innovative teaching practices in lecture-based classes. It concludes with a call for student-centered, evidence-based design culture that meets the demands placed on the educational system of architecture by the profession and society.Period | 25 Jun 2015 |
