Description
Whether it is a record of a horse being stolen, a chicken being plucked by the wrong person, or a dog being hanged, archives present mere glimpses of the lives of and with animals in the early modern period. This talk will explore the problems of the fragments that are sometimes all that we can find: how do we make sense of them? What value can a line or a scrap have for the historian? This talk will follow some of the crumbs found in the Essex Record Office to see where they lead.
