Description
The presentation introduced the Drawing Together project, an international research project working with groups of young refugees in Scotland, Finland, Norway to examine how they draw and describe their networks and relationships. The research took a relational approach to wellbeing as conceptualized by Sarah C. White. Data comprised of individual interviews with 51 young refugees and a selection of paired interviews alongside someone they defined as family-like and important for their current wellbeing. Sharon will draw on case study examples to illuminate the important role family-like relationships have in creating wellbeing and meeting the daily needs of young refugees, and the importance of opportunities being provided to help young refugees build family-like relationships through formal and other support networks. The presentation will be based on the following research paper: Tiilikainen, M., Fylkesnes, M., and McGregor, S.A. (2023).
