Culturally Responsive Teaching in Global Language Classrooms: Embracing Multilingualism and Translanguaging

Activity: Talk or PresentationInvited talk

Description

I led a workshop for university practitioners as part of Global Development Programme between University of Strathclyde and Crescent Institute of Science and Technology (India).

Abstract: In classrooms worldwide, linguistic diversity is the norm rather than the exception, with students bringing a multitude of languages and cultural perspectives. This workshop explores the universal challenge of reconciling monolingual language policies with the multilingual realities of diverse classrooms. Through a blend of research and first-hand accounts from teachers and learners, you will examine how multilingualism and translanguaging can serve as both obstacles and opportunities in achieving language proficiency. Learn to develop inclusive, context-sensitive pedagogies that honour and leverage linguistic diversity, fostering an environment where all students can thrive.
