Description
Building Emotional Intelligence: a grid for practitioners
This session presents a simple, practical model for working with emotions in mediation. Professor Charlie Irvine, Director of Scotland's first Masters in Mediation, and Michelle LeBaron, Professor of Law and Dispute Resolution at UBC, explain the role of emotions in conflict and the critical skill of emotional self- regulation, described by Daniel Goleman as the 'Master Aptitude'. The 'emotion grid' helps practitioners develop emotional fluency, enhancing their understanding of their own and their clients' emotional responses. The workshop draws on Charlie’s chapter in ‘The Choreography of Resolution’ a new ABA publication exploring the links between conflict and creativity.
