Description

The main challenge is the online identification/prediction of the cascading events (an example of a cascading event to clarify what this looks like is provided below) that follow an initial contingency. This is effectively a prediction problem based on time series input data and can be formulated as a multi-class classification problem.

The lead institution of this Challenge is the University of Strathclyde and the challenge is part of an EPSRC Supergen Energy Networks Hub project (SENFC-1-017) entitled “Using machine learning to represent power system dynamics” and aligned with a UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowship (MR/S034420/1) on “Addressing the complexity of future power system dynamic behaviour” . National Grid, the GB system operator, is also a supporting partner of this project.
