Description

It is 50 years since Professor Donald Pack was part of the small group of academics that Professor Lighthill assembled to consider the formation of what is now the IMA. Coincidentally it is also 50 years since the University of Strathclyde received its Royal Charter, with Professor Pack leading the Department of Mathematics. The event will include a short talk about Professor Pack's role in the formation of the IMA and his influence on Applied Mathematics at Strathclyde and further afield, followed by an invited lecture by Professor Jason Reese, Regius Professor of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, "Beyond Navier-Stokes: what can we do when fluid dynamics fails?".
